With the autumn evenings rolling in and hearty food like stews and broths back on the menu, you need a seasonal bottle to pair. We’re turning our attention to Tuscany and focusing on legendary producer Caparzo.
Based in the picturesque rolling hills of Montalcino, these iconic producers have been making world-class wine in Tuscany since the 1960’s.
In 1998 the estate was taken on by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, with the help of her son, Igino, and daughter, Alessandra, they worked hard to modernise the winery and focus on high levels of viticulture in the vineyards.
To showcase the incredible diversity of the estate we’ve selected four of their wines to taste through, all are available to buy individually and if you’re a fan of Sangiovese or central Italian wine, these are not to be missed.
This entry wine from Caparzo is one of the best value wines we have at Bottles ‘N’ Jars. It’s a firm favourite of a lot of our regulars and continues to punch well above it’s weight.
A baby Brunello made with younger fruit a less ageing in wood, these wines are also much more approachable when young, making now the perfect time to try this 2020.
2017 Brunello di Montalcino (Green Label)
The benchmark for any great Brunello, opulent, complex with so much depth and layers, this wine will benefit from a decant. 2017 was a tricky and small vintage, the tennis here are ripe and calling out for something fatty to pair with.
2016 ‘La Cassa’ Brunello di Montalcino
The fruit here comes from arguably one of the best sites in the whole of Tuscany. It's the showcase from Caparzo and you get a lot of wine for your money here. Best enjoyed after a gentle decant on your favourite armchair. 2016 was an excellent and expressive vintage, it will drink well now and is also one for the collectors.
